Attractions in Charleston South Carolina

South Carolina is the kind of place people have in mind when they think of the Antebellum South. It has a lush landscape that goes from the sea to the mountains. It was the first state to secede from the Union during the Civil War, and many of its old historical sites are still preserved today. The city people think of first, when thinking of the state, is Charleston. It is rich with history and Southern culture, and there are many attractions in Charleston to satisfy any history and cultural buff.

Plantations
Plantations are the centerpiece of the Antebellum South. They were like castles to the agrarian slave culture of their time. Many are still standing, and Charleston has a few to show off. Although the plantations represent a bittersweet time in American History, they are worth the visit because of the wonderful architecture and attention to preserving the culture that they represent.

King Street
Shoppers will enjoy King Street with its many shops and restaurants. This is South Carolina culture at its finest. A place for the well heeled to stroll and feel like Southern aristocracy.

Beaches
Charleston is in what is called the South Carolina low country, so it’s worth a trip to the beach to see a quainter version of the seaside then one will get traveling to Myrtle Beach or Hilton Head. There are some nice, quiet and quaint spots that are often recommended for honeymoons.
