One of the thirteenth colonies of the US, South Carolina is a part of Carolina, which was named after King Charles I. Carolina was divided into South and North Carolina in the year 1710. South Carolina was one of the richest colonies at the time of the American Revolution. The natives of South Carolina are the numerous tribes and Gullahs who are the descendants of the slave brought to South Carolina.
Gullahs are the African Americans who speak English based Creole language. Gullahs celebrate their cultural festivals every year such as “Gullah Celebration” in the month of February, “National Freedom Day”, the food expo and “Gullah Film Festival” etc. The main travel attraction in South Carolina includes The Intimidator, the latest roller coaster at Carowinds, the state of the art marketplace i.e. South Carolina State Farmers Market which has established a new norm for American custom. The most visited tourist attraction in South Carolina is Old Slave Mart Museum in Charleston. The main beaches include Grand Strand/Myrtle Beach, Lowcountry Beaches and historic Charleston Beach. South Carolina’s main crops are tobacco, soybeans, sweet potatoes, peaches, peanuts and pecans etc. Broiler chicken, cattle, fishing, military bases and nuclear facilities are very important to the economy and main source of income.
